New York police obviously aren’t busy #edl #sdl #bnp #ukip

NEW YORK (AP) — Muslims gathering to celebrate the end of Ramadan at a New York City park found uncooked bacon scattered there, and police are investigating it as a possible hate crime.

New York Police Department investigators believe the same person might be behind an anti-Muslim Internet posting, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said Monday.

Kelly declined to elaborate on the posting.

In a statement, the New York chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations cited a report that the posting read in part, “I am going to walk my pet pig and i am gonna let him (defecate) ….just in time for morning prayers.” …………….(more)

When is a #racist attack NOT a racist attack? When the victim is white #edl #manchester

Was this boy beaten senseless because he’s white? Teenager fighting for his sight after ‘hate attack’ by Asian gang

By JAYA NARAIN
UPDATED: 01:33, 8 February 2012

A teenager was left for dead after being chased and savagely beaten by a gang of Asians in a suspected racist attack.

Daniel Stringer, 17, was pursued through a busy town centre by up to eight men and then repeatedly kicked and punched in the head.

He was left in the road, bleeding and barely conscious, as the gang melted away into the night.

Police say there is no evidence of provocation and are treating the attack as a serious hate crime.

Daniel’s family issued pictures of the teenager lying seriously ill in hospital with a fractured skull and fractured eye socket. They say the nerves behind his eyes have been damaged and he could be left with impaired vision.

‘I wish someone would tell me why they left my baby for dead in the road,’ said his mother Cheryl Stringer. ‘I’m lucky to still have him.

‘We don’t know the extent of the damage behind his eye until his swelling goes down.

‘He then needs plastic surgery on the eye socket that they broke in two places. He also has several fractures to his cheek that need  plastic surgery and he also has a fractured skull.

‘It’s going to be a long, long battle for my gorgeous boy. I still can’t understand why they left him in the road to die.’

Daniel, still in great pain, told how he was cornered by the gang after they chased him through  the town.

‘They were older than me,’ he said. ‘One of them grabbed me. He hit me in the face and that’s about all I can remember.

‘I’m upset and feel really down. Why me? I don’t know why they chose me.’

The incident occurred at about 10.15pm last Saturday when he and his best friend Kavan Brown, also 17, were walking in Hyde, Greater Manchester, when they passed a takeaway.

Inside was a group of Asian men and a woman. Without provocation one of the men produced a knife and made a threatening gesture at the teenagers through the window, suggesting they were going to have their throats cut.

The pair walked on, but moments later the group spilled into the street and began to run towards them. Daniel fell over and was set upon as he lay on the ground.

He had emergency surgery after the attack and will need to return to hospital when doctors attempt to rebuild his right cheek with a metal plate.

Kavan, whose nose was broken in the attack, said: ‘I just can’t understand why it happened. I’d never seen any of them in my life before.’

Police said there were seven or eight offenders who are described as being Asian and in their late teens or early 20s.

They are investigating the assault as a hate crime.

Last night police had a man of 21 in custody on suspicion of assault.

Ian Austin,Labour MP for Dudley North tries to tell us #Enoch #Powell was wrong LOL is he for real? Does he live in a bubble?

Enoch Powell was wrong

On immigration, the issue that defines him, Enoch Powell was not visionary: he was utterly mistaken, deliberately incendiary, and a dupe of the National Front, writes Ian Austin.

By Ian Austin

2:20PM BST 22 Jun 2012

On the centenary of his birth this week, we have been told several times about Enoch Powell’s prescience and wisdom. He has been condemned for the last 44 years as a racist, but a campaign to rehabilitate him is under way. A new collection of essays is graced with a foreword by Iain Duncan Smith, and several high-profile columnists have written in praise of him. After recounting his war record, his supporters list the languages he’d mastered, praise the power of his oratory and tell us how he saw the future. But they are wrong, and so was he.

Duncan Smith warmly recounts anecdotes about platforms and journeys they shared, discussing his views on Europe, the nation state and the constitution, before eventually getting to Powell’s notorious speech. He exonerates him of racism, criticising only his “injudicious use of inflammatory language”, but excuses that on the grounds that his “low opinion of Ted Heath distorted his judgement.” In case we’ve not get the message, he gives the last word to Anne Robinson, quoting her description of him as “a worthy hero.”

Their claims that he was not a racist are, as Dorian Lynskey pointed out in the New Statesman this week, undermined by Powell himself asking BBC journalist Michael Cockerill, “What’s wrong with racism? Racism is the basis of nationality.”

The Times was right when it condemned Powell for making “an evil speech” which “appealed to racial hatred.” The Sunday Times said he was spouting “the fantasies of racial purity.” Ted Heath said it was “racialist in tone and liable to exacerbate racial tensions”. Iain Macleod, Edward Boyle, Quintin Hogg and Robert Carr demanded he be sacked from the front bench, promising they’d go if he didn’t.

It is not racist to worry about immigration and its impact on jobs or on scarce public services. I’ve raised my constituents’ concerns about these issues regularly, but the truth is that Powell didn’t just raise worries about immigration. Read what he said.

He claimed a constituent he described as a “a decent, ordinary fellow Englishman” had told him that the country would “not be worth living in”, because “in 15 or 20 years’ time the black man will have the whip hand over the white man”. He complained his constituents were becoming strangers in their own country, that their wives could not get hospital beds to give birth in, or their children school places. He proposed “generous grants and assistance”, so that immigrants would leave the country. He even predicted race wars, quoting the Aeneid and its “wars, terrible wars”. “As I look ahead,” he said, “I am filled with foreboding. Like the Roman, I seem to see ‘the River Tiber foaming with much blood’.”

And he raised a letter he said he’d received from someone in Northumberland about an elderly woman in Wolverhampton who had become her street’s only white resident and was, he claimed, being harassed each morning by black residents wanting to ring their employers. “She is becoming afraid to go out,” he claimed. “Windows are broken. She finds excreta pushed through her letterbox. When she goes to the shops, she is followed by children, charming wide-eyed piccaninnies.” But Powell had not spoken to the woman: in fact, he’d not even bothered to check whether she was a real person.

Clem Jones, then editor of the Black Country’s evening paper, The Express and Star, and a man of great bravery and integrity, set out to establish the facts. He searched the electoral register and sent his journalists out to pound the streets, but could find no evidence to that the Wolverhampton woman existed.

He was concerned because, a few weeks before, Powell had made a speech in Walsall in which he claimed a constituent had complained that his daughter was the only white child in her class. Jones’ son Nick, the former BBC reporter, says his father’s journalists had been unable to substantiate those claims, and that he warned Powell that he’d been receiving similar anonymous complaints which turned out to be false, and had been traced back to members of the National Front. Powell wouldn’t listen, boasting instead about the bags of letters he’d received in support.

Jones also knew – whatever Powell claimed afterwards or Duncan Smith believes today – that Powell knew in advance exactly what impact his speech would have. He had been a close friend of Powell’s, even advising how to attract publicity for his speeches. In the week beforehand, Powell told Jones he would be making another speech the following Saturday, but refused to tell him what would be in it.

“Look, Clem,” he said, “I’m not telling you what is in the speech. But you know how a rocket goes up into the air, explodes into lots of stars, and then falls down to the ground. Well, this speech is going to go up like a rocket, and when it gets to the top, the stars are going to stay up.” Powell was appealing to the worst racist prejudices, and he knew exactly what he was doing.

Under the headline “Coloured family attacked”, the Times reported that 10 days after the speech a black family’s christening party in Wolverhampton had been attacked by a gang of racist thugs chanting “Powell” and “Why don’t you go back to your own country.” The baby’s grandfather was slashed in the face with a knife. He’d been in Britain 13 years, and said “nothing like this has happened before. I am shattered”.

A few months ago, I was with a group of people when an article they’d read about an asylum seeker came up. “Scum of the earth,” one said, before another replied that “Enoch Powell was right. He was just too clever for them.” I told them what he’d said and why he’d been wrong. But it showed that excusing or minimising what Powell said can encourage abuse and racism elsewhere.

Despite the prejudice his speech encouraged, despite the fact that black people were attacked because of his speech, and despite all the challenges Britain has faced in the 44 years since, the race wars he predicted have not happened.

He might have been able to quote Virgil and speak lots of different languages, but none of his apocalyptic prophecies came true. Despite his paranoia, Britain is a country in which people from different countries, backgrounds and cultures work and live together harmoniously. Iin Britain today what matters is not where you or your parents were born, what you look like, but the contribution you make, the way you behave and what you believe.

So whether it’s in a collection of essays, a newspaper, at work or in a pub, the next time someone tells you “Enoch was right”, tell them the truth: in the speech for which he is remembered, he was utterly wrong.

Four terrorists convicted of planning Mumbai-style attack on awards ceremony hosted by newspaper that printed cartoon of Mohammad

By RICHARD ORANGE

PUBLISHED: 14:01, 4 June 2012 | UPDATED: 14:25, 4 June 2012

Four men have been convicted by a Danish court for planning an attack on Denmark’s Jyllands-Posten newspaper, in retaliation for the paper printing offensive cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed.

The four men, all Muslims resident in Sweden, pleaded ‘not guilty’ to the charges. But, in a unanimous verdict broadcast on Monday morning, Glostrup district court found all four guilty of terrorism.

According to PET, the Danish security service, the men had planned to ‘kill as many people as possible’ by raiding an awards ceremony held by the newspaper. They face up to 16 years in jail when sentenced later on Monday.

Three of the men were seized in a Copenhagen flat in December 2010, along with a machine gun with a silencer, a revolver, 108 bullets, and 200 plastic handcuff strips – with which they were accused of planning an assault similar to the 2008 Mumbai attacks on two five-star hotels.

In the weeks following the arrests, the fourth man was picked up in a flat on the outskirts of Stockholm.

Another man, an Iraqi, was seized in Copenhagen, but was later released.

Sahbi Zalouti, 37, Munir Awad, 29, and Omar Abdalla Aboelazm, 30, are all Swedish citizens – of Tunisian, Lebanese and Moroccan descent respectively.

The fourth man convicted, 44-year-old Mounir Dhahri, is a Tunisian national.

PET said it seized the men only days before they planned to attack the Sporting Newcomer of the Year event, which was attended by Denmark’s Crown Prince Frederik.

Jyllands-Posten has been a terror target since it published 12 satirical cartoons of Mohammed in 2005, breaking a taboo in Islam against depicting its prophet.

The most notorious cartoon showed Mohammad carrying a bomb on his head with a lit fuse, instead of a turban.

The cartoons sparked street protests around the world, leading to the bombing of the Danish embassy in Pakistan, and arson attacks on Danish embassies in Syria, Lebanon and Iran.

In its latest terror threat assessment, released at the end of January, PET argued that the country remained ‘a priority terrorist target among militant Islamists’ – partly because of the newspaper’s decision to reprint the cartoons in 2008.

All the Marxist clowns on twitter saying “there were only 30 #EDL” in #Brighton – you fail

A positive policing presence in Brighton and Hove today (Saturday 2 June) ensured it was largely business as usual for residents, traders and visitors, as both nationalists and UK Uncut supporters gathered in the city. (The group promote alternatives  to  Government spending cuts ) Superintendent Steve Whitton said: “We took the decision to have a visible and reassuring presence in the city today. Early engagement, explaining our intentions to facilitate peaceful activity and making arrests for any criminality, prevented an escalation of tension between the groups and only a few minor incidents of disorder took place.

“I would like to thank local people, businesses and visitors for their patience on the few occasions when it was necessary to close roads or divert traffic. We were able keep these to a minimum.”

Police estimate around 100 nationalists and 100 UK Uncut supporters were in the city. Supporters of UK Uncut gathered at the Clock Tower just after noon and made their way to Churchill Square for a peaceful gathering.

After the planned event, a spontaneous anti-fascist march took place in North Street involving some people who had been part of the UK Uncut group and others. Around 3pm this march was diverted away from nationalist supporters by police to avoid likely conflict.

Later in the afternoon, there were minor confrontations between opposing factions on the seafront and in the St James’s Street area but these were quickly dealt with by police.

A group of around 30 nationalists who had been confrontational during the afternoon were escorted to Brighton railway station around 6pm and placed on trains out of the city.

Anti-monarchists booed and jeered

Members of Republic demonstrate near Tower Bridge

Anti-monarchy protesters faced renditions of the national anthem as they staged a demonstration at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee river pageant.

Dozens of supporters of campaign group Republic gathered on the banks of the Thames near Tower Bridge, ahead of the arrival of the 1,000-strong flotilla led by the Queen.

The protesters waved placards and banners saying “citizen not subject”, “power to the people” and “democracy not monarchy” as they called for the abolition of the monarchy.

But they faced boos and jeers from sections of the crowd who had waited for hours in the rain to watch the river pageant, while some royal supporters began singing God Save The Queen.

Graham Smith, chief executive of Republic, said the protest was held at the same time as the river pageant to “raise the profile” of the republican movement.

He said: “We’re opposed to celebrating hereditary privilege and power. The message is to the millions of people who oppose the monarchy that there is a movement you can support.

“The whole country isn’t in love with the monarchy. It’s a minority interest. We’ll keep going until the monarchy is abolished.”

Republic said the protest involved representatives of the group’s branches in Wales and Scotland, as well as a delegation from the Swedish republican movement.

Protesters said talks have been held with the Metropolitan police and reassured families intending to travel to Tower Bridge to watch the river pageant that the protest would be peaceful.

Mr Smith added: “The royals spend most of their lives shielded from criticism – this protest will give them a rare glimpse of the strength of republican sentiment in Britain today.”
